Suzuki sheds light on its electric two-wheeler debut plan

- Suzuki reveals it has the EV technology ready

- Will only move forward with its plans once the buyers are ready

- Cost of acquisition of EVs seems to be the main concern

With the world gradually moving its attention towards electric mobility, it’s just a matter of time that all the major two-wheeler makers will have electric two-wheelers in their portfolio. We have been hearing a lot of mainstream manufacturers talk about their plans to hop on the EV bandwagon and the latest titbit has come from Suzuki

In a conversation with a media publication, Suzuki Motorcycle India’s Vice President (Sales & Marketing, After-sales), Devashish Handa affirmed that the company has the EV technology ready. However, the brand will only move forward in this space once the buyers are ready. The top honcho stated that Suzuki is ‘watching the space very carefully, but the journey of electric two-wheelers has not been consistent.’ The main concern Suzuki sees is the higher cost of electric two-wheelers as compared to the ICE ones.

Left Side

It’s worth noting that this is not the first time Suzuki has revealed its intentions to enter into the Indian EV space. The company head, Koichiro Hirao, had splilled the beans back in June 2019 by asserting that the company is working on an electric two-wheeler specifically for the Indian market. And considering the success Suzuki had with scooters in India till date, we believe its first EV will be a scooter.

Looking at the pace with which the Indian market is moving towards cleaner mobility, it won’t be long before we witness an electric two-wheeler prototype being revealed by Suzuki.
