- Burgman electric and hydrogen-powered models to be shown
- Will be displayed at the Japan Mobility Show this year
- Burgman electric likely to be 125cc equivalent
Suzuki is set to unveil two new Burgman models – an electric Burgman and a hydrogen-powered model – this month at the Japan Mobility Show this year. The event will be held from 26 October to 5 November in Tokyo and the scooters on display will be early prototypes.
Speaking of the e-Burgman, it will be a 125cc-equivalent model. The acceleration and top speed could be in the same bracket as its petrol-powered counterpart. Suzuki is looking to employ a swappable battery system. The Japanese bikemaker will work with Gachaco, a Japan-based battery-swapping consortium, which also includes prominent names like Honda, Kawasaki, Yamaha, and Suzuki. Suzuki will accumulate user patterns and behaviour through pilot projects of the Burgman Electric. This could be used for the future development of other EVs too.
Moreover, some of the recently revealed details hint that the hydrogen-based model will have a slightly larger capacity with a large wheelbase. Suzuki has been experimenting with hydrogen combustion for a while and is likely to use a direct system rather than a fuel-cell setup.
Interestingly, the Suzuki e-Burgman has also been spotted testing in India in the past. This shows that the Japanese brand could be gearing up to enter the Indian electric two-wheeler space soon.
