SWM's parent company, Shineray recently revealed plans for a new range of V-twin engines displacing 350cc to 1200cc. However, no other details were revealed.
Now, reports suggest that the 1200cc engine will be sourced from Italian manufacturer Moto Morini. The image released along with the announcement is identical to Moto Morini's Bialbero CorsaCorta engine save for the branding on the side.
This '1200cc' engine is a Euro4 compliant fuel-injected 1187cc unit with an 87 degree V-angle. It produces 140bhp at 8500rpm and 125Nm of torque at 6750rpm mated to a six-speed gearbox.
Moto Morini has a history of designing and supplying engines to other manufacturers. This could either mean that SWM will get a supply of the engines or build them with an issued licence. Also, this 1187cc engine is in production since 2005, so using a tried and tested unit would save development cost for SWM.
