- SYM is a Taiwan-based two-wheeler manufacturer
- DRG BT’s distinctive styling takes inspiration from dragons
- Priced at 4,09,000 Yen (approximately Rs 3 lakh) in Japan
SYM, a Taiwan-based two-wheeler manufacturer, has launched a new sport scooter, the DRG BT, in Japan. One look at it and the DRG BT will make you go weak in the knees with the extremely radical design it has been bestowed with.
SYM’s official website clearly states that the design of the DRG takes inspiration from dragons and we can’t agree more. The aggressive lines dominating its entire bodywork inarguably attempts to emulate a vicious creature. With the pointed front apron sporting deep creases and a raked tail section with taut lines, the DRG BT looks ready to charge ahead, even while standing still.
The dual LED headlamps have been neatly tucked within the front apron with the LED turn indicators sitting underneath. The edgy tail lamps completing the floating-style tail section are also LEDs. On contrary to the sporty styling, SYM has paid attention towards comfort which is exemplified by the roomy footboard, easy-to-reach handlebar and a capacious stepped seat.
Propelling the racy-looking DRG BT is a 158cc, single-cylinder, liquid-cooled engine which produces 14.6bhp and 15.44Nm. The scooter rides on 13-inch alloy wheels at both ends which are suspended by telescopic forks up front and a unique mid-mounted monoshock at the rear. Braking is handled by discs at both ends with dual-channel ABS.
SYM has launched the DRG BT in Japan at 4,09,000 Yen (approximately Rs 3 lakh) which makes it a pricey proposition. Considering its premium price tag and the brand not having a presence in India currently, the DRG BT is unlikely to come to our shores in the near future.
