Massimo Tamburini or ‘The Maestro’, as he is reverentially referred to, might have departed two years ago, but his legacy continues to live on. The T12 Massimo was first conceptualised by Tamburini, though he could not live to see his final work materialise . Built by his son Andrea, only two prototypes have been made so far, which can be yours for EUR 3,00,000 (Rs 2.28 crore) apiece. Even with this astronomical price tag, we can expect the two models to disappear from the sales catalogue in no time. Just a news story doesn’t do justice to this masterpiece, so here is a detailed photo gallery of the T12 Massimo.
The T12 Massimo bears its creator’s first name (which incidentally also means ‘maximum’), along with his lucky number - 12.
This bike isn’t just a showpiece, but a proper track tool with all the bells and whistles you would expect to see in a track-focussed motorcycle.
The single-sided swingarm, Marchesini magnesium wheels and carbon fibre fuel tank not only enhance the aesthetics, but help in saving weight too.
The T12 Massimo is built around a trellis frame made out of chrome-molybdenum alloy and a magnesium headstock.
Tipping the scales at 150 kilograms, the T12 Massimo makes use of aerospace-grade carbon fibre to keep weight at bay.
The aerodynamic body panels hide an SBK version of BMW S1000RR inline-four engine, developing over 230 horsepower.
The lower part of the fairing has outlets to let the engine breathe out through the custom-built Arrow exhaust system.
Like any track-focussed bike, the T12 Massimo offers a high level of adjustability for the handlebars, suspension, trail and steering rake.
The T12 Massimo rides on Pirelli Diablo SBK-spec tyres and high-end Ohlins suspension. Electronics have been supplied by MOTEC.
