The scooter segment has contributed the most in growing the Indian two-wheeler industry. Increase in disposable income and the need of a practical two-wheeler has made everyone in the country to get one scooter home. But unlike 2016, 2017 didn’t have a lot of scooter launches. Only two manufacturers managed to introduce a few models into the market and we list them there.
1: Honda Activa 4G
The unofficial national scooter of India got a major update. It got a new name, a few aesthetic changes and updates to its 110cc motor to meet the latest emission norms. The Activa 4G continues to be the highest selling scooter in India and that’s because of Honda’s reliability and the product’s brand value which has only grown over the last few years.
2: Vespa Elegante 150
The Elegante 150 was launched as a special edition variant of the Vespa VXL 150. It gets some nice premium bits which enhanced its overall appeal. But with a price tag of almost close to a lakh made it one of the most expensive scooters to purchase in India.
3: Honda Cliq
The Cliq was a shocking launch by Honda. The design and the concept are quite different from what we see in traditional scooters. With the Cliq, Honda wanted to focus more on the semi-urban and rural areas. The Japanese manufacturer wanted to offer a product which is durable, strong and versatile but in a scooter format. It also get tyres that are more off-road focused.
4: Vespa Red
The Vespa Red was yet another special launches from Piaggio. The Vespa RED is a collaboration between the Italian maker and RED charitable organization. The sale of each RED scooter will result into a $50 donation to support the fight against AIDS. Unfortunately, this product didn’t really contribute much to this brilliant thought as it didn’t sell as expected.
5: Honda Grazia.
The Grazia was the biggest scooter launch and a surprising one. This 125cc scooter is based on the Activa but looks nothing like it. The Grazia is stylish, desirable and has features that makes it difficult to ignore. It is also available in a disc brake variant. The Suzuki Access 125 finally has a very strong rival.
