We, at BikeWale, celebrated women’s day by inviting TVS Racing’s Aishwarya Pissay on the BikeWale Podcast. She’s a five-time national rally champion and the first Indian to win an international motorsport title, the FIM Baja World Cup in 2019. She seems to be leaving no stones unturned in making her mark and setting an example for budding athletes across India. But how did it all start for her? And what is she aiming for next? She answers it all in this deeply inspiring women’s day special episode, the Spotify link to which is attached below.
Getting on the bike
'I failed my 12th exams so I had a year to prepare and reappear,' says Aishwarya with a chuckle. With a lot of time to spare during this hiatus, she started going out on rides with her friends. 'I always had a bug for speed,' she confesses and goes on to narrate her story of getting into the Apex Racing Academy. After multiple appearances in competitions, TVS identified the spark in her, followed by lending her the support she needed to take off in the Indian racing scene.
Injuries and Recoveries
Since the time she started professional racing, Aishwarya has sustained a bunch of injuries, severe ones at that. While broken collarbone and ruptured pancreas were the nastiest, she even had both her wrists fractured in the FIM Baja World Cup last year. However, none of the injuries could shake her determination and will to get back on track, and she kept coming back even stronger. Well, how does she maintain her calm in such times and where is all the motivation coming from to keep going? She shares it all in this candid conversation with us.
