- TVS introduces Electric One Make Championship
- All set to debut on 29 September at INMRC
- Eight handpicked racers to compete astride the Apache RTE
The global shift towards electric mobility is becoming more evident in the world of racing as well. Case in point TVS’ latest announcement about foraying into the world of EV moto racing. The company has introduced a new racing category called TVS Racing Electric One Make Championship (e-OMC) dedicated to, you guessed it right, electric two-wheelers.
TVS Motor Company will be the first Indian two-wheeler manufacturer to conduct an electric two-wheeler racing championship. It will debut at the fourth round of the Indian National Motorcycle Racing Championship (INMRC) on 29 September, 2023. Eight riders, handpicked by TVS Racing, will compete astride Apache RTE electric race machines purposely built for this championship. In fact, there are a lot of interesting bits to learn about this race bike.
TVS hasn’t revealed the exact battery and motor specifications of the Apache RTE. However, what we know is that the battery case is made up of carbon fibre and it acts as the stressed member of the chassis. Also, the propelling motor and motor controller are accompanied by a liquid-cooling system for keeping the temperature in check while the bike is put through its paces during competition. Even the battery management system is custom-built with special race algorithms while the motor is connected to the rear wheel via a sprocket and chain set.
Other upmarket, race-spec components in the Apache RTE include Ohlins bespoke front and rear suspension, brake callipers and master cylinder sourced from Brembo, carbon fibre wheels at both ends, sticky Pirelli Supercorsa tyres, and carbon fibre fairing. Topping it all off is a unique livery comprising TVS Racing Factory colours and sustainability-inspired graphics.
