Mechanical specifications have undergone changes to comply with the latest emission norms. The power output, however, has gone up during the BS6 transition. The TVS Apache RTR 180 BS6 is tuned to draw 16.5bhp of peak power at 8,500rpm and 15.5Nm of maximum torque at 7,000rpm from its 177.4cc, single-cylinder, oil-cooled engine. In comparison, the BS4 model, which was equipped with a carburettor system, produced 16.3bhp of power at 8,500rpm and 15.5Nm of torque at 6,500rpm. TVS has also added the Glide Through Technology (GTT) to the Apache RTR 180 BS6.
The changes are limited to the engine upgrade. All other details remain similar to the BS4 model. Thus, the hardware on the Apache RTR 180 BS6 includes telescopic front forks and gas-filled twin rear springs to perform the shock absorption tasks. Anchoring power comes from a 270mm petal-type disc at the front and a 200mm petal-type rotor at the rear. The safety net comprises of single-channel ABS.
Styling cues and features, too, remain unchanged, and the Apache RTR 160 BS6 continues to feature a halogen headlight with twin LED position lamps at the front, LED taillight and a semi-digital instrument cluster. The colour palette is identical to the BS4 model, and the Apache RTR 160 BS6 is listed in four paint options – Pearl White, Matte Blue, Gloss Black and T Grey.
The motorcycle has gained some weight during the BS6 upgrade, and the latest model tips the weighing scale at 141kg. The BS4 mode, for reference, weighed 139kg. Key dimensions such as length (2,085mm), width (730mm) and height (1,105mm) remain unaltered. The wheelbase and the ground clearance, however, are different on the BS6 model. The new version of the motorcycle features a wheelbase of 1,300mm (as against 1,326mm) and a ground clearance of 170mm (as against 165mm).
