The TVS Akula 310 was once again spotted undergoing testing in Bangalore. The heavily camouflaged test mule featured a more production feasible design than the original concept with a new exhaust canister and revised tail section to make room for a pillion.
The TVS Akula 310 concept was first unveiled at the 2016 Auto Expo as a carbon fibre clad fully faired version of the BMW G 310R. Built to commemorate 33 years of TVS Racing, the Akula 310 was pegged as a lightweight track tool. However, the spy shot now shows that TVS will ditch a few styling cues in the production model for obvious reasons. The tail section now gets a pillion seat while the race-spec exhaust has been ditched in favour of a conventional canister. Other cycle parts like the suspension and wheels look similar to those of the concept, though the heavy camouflage hides most of the details. Enclosed in the trellis frame is a liquid cooled 313cc single cylinder engine, mated to a six-speed transmission.
Though TVS has so far been evasive about commenting on the Akula 310, the company’s head president, K.N. Radhakrishnan, recently confirmed a launch in this financial year. The Akula 310 will be the first fully-faired TVS motorcycle which will compete with the likes of the KTM RC200 and the Honda CBR 250R.
