- New Alpinestars Tech Air 5 airbag vest introduced for racing
- All TVS racing events will use airbag vest
- Retail price of this vest is over Rs 1 lakh in India
TVS has introduced one of the safest technologies ever produced for motorcycle racing – an airbag vest. The company has acquired the Alpinestars Tech Air 5 airbag vest to be used for racing in India.
This is the first time an Indian motorcycle brand decided to bring this tech to the Indian racers. The company unveiled the Alpinestars Tech Air 5 airbag vest at the recently concluded qualifier of the Young Media Race Program. From now onwards, all TVS track racing events will see the use of this airbag vest as standard. All the racers who are a part of TVS racing events will have to mandatorily wear this airbag vest.
The Alpinestars Tech-Air 5 vest is an airbag system that self-inflates in case the rider crashes. This system uses six sensors – three gyroscopes and three accelerometers, to detect the rider’s movements on the road. When this system detects an impact, the vest self-inflates and protects the rider from major impact. The inflation takes place on the shoulder, back and chest areas. This system can also be configured for street riding purposes, and this configuration can be done through the official smartphone application. This vest is MotoGP spec and has also been approved by FIM.
TVS has been in the world of racing for decades, and over the last few years, it has focused on developing new talent and also supporting the racing culture in India. But now with the introduction of such protective gear, it clearly shows that the brand is extremely committed towards the rider’s safety and also wants to improve the racing culture of India.
