- TVS sales affected due to the COVID-19 lockdown
- Limited stock is being supplied to the dealers
TVS Motor Company has clocked sales of 2,38,983 units in April 2021, as opposed to 9,640 units in the corresponding month last year. This is a combined figure of domestic dispatches and exports of two-wheelers and three-wheelers combined. Domestic sales of two-wheelers stood at 1,31,386 units while exports reached up to 94,807 units last month.
TVS says that the indigenous sales are much lower as compared to average sales at this time of the year. The main reason for this is the ongoing lockdown imposed in several regions of India. In fact, the situation was worse in April last year when a complete lockdown was imposed. The company has reduced the supply of stocks to the dealers and will increase it depending on the lockdown relaxations and demand. Notably, it’s not just TVS but every two-wheeler manufacturer is struggling to cope with the dreadful market situation owing to the increasing cases of the COVID-19 virus.
The last month also witnessed a lot of major manufacturers, including TVS, increasing the prices of their two-wheelers. TVS’ entire scooter range including Jupiter, Scooty Pep Plus and Zest 110 became expensive while bikes like the Apache series and commuters were also a part of the campaign.
