- TVS recently launched the ethanol-powered Apache RTR 200 Fi E100
- Is actively working on an electric two-wheeler
TVS Motor Company is gearing up to launch BS-VI compliant and electric two-wheelers by the second half of current financial year. While the government will be mandating the production of only BS-VI two-wheelers from 1 April 2020, we might witness the entire line-up of TVS to be BS VI-ready months before the deadline approaches.
Currently, the only two-wheeler on sale which is compliant with the upcoming emission norms is the Hero Splendor iSmart. The motorcycle had received the approval of being future-ready by the International Centre for Automotive Technology in the last month. Besides that, Honda has also unveiled the BS-VI Activa 125 scooter which will be available starting festive season this year. With most of the brands already prepping to introduce their products with a cleaner BS-VI engine, TVS might get late to the party. However, the bikemaker has already become the pioneer of launching the first ethanol-powered motorcycle, the Apache RTR 200 Fi E100.
As of now, the details are scarce as to which TVS products will be the first to get ready for the new emission norms. However, considering that the Apache RTR 160 4V, RTR 200 4V and the RR 310 are the only products available with a fuel-injected motor, these offerings will most likely be the first to receive the BS VI approval. Now, it remains to be seen how much will be the price hike for the two-wheelers during this transition. As for the electric two-wheeler, the company is actively working on an e-vehicle which should be ready soon. As we had reported in May, we expect the bikemaker to launch its first electric scooter built around the Creon concept which was unveiled at the 2018 Auto Expo.
