Ultraviolette Automotive, a Bengaluru-based startup, has recently introduced its first electric motorcycle, the F77, in India. As opposed to a majority of electric two-wheeler makers aiming to develop commuter-centric e-bikes, the F77 comes as a breath of fresh air with a strong game of performance figures and a fully-faired design. On paper, the electric motorcycle has a lot of tricks up its sleeves and we highlight them in five different points.
Impressive power figures
The F77 is propelled by a 25kW motor which produces 34.7bhp of power at 2,250rpm and as much as 90Nm of torque. With that power output, the motorcycle can achieve a top speed of around 140kmph. It is also quick in acceleration as the speed of 0-60kmph is attained in 2.9 seconds while 0-100kmph takes 7.2 seconds. The numbers sound commendable from electric two-wheeler standards.
Fast charging and long range
Providing energy for propulsion to the F77 is a group of three lithium-ion batteries with a capacity of 4.2kW each. Through a standard charger, the battery pack fully charges in 5 hours. However, the company will also offer the F77 with a fast-charger which can top it up in an hour and a half. The riding range of the battery pack on a full-charge is between 130-150km. This will vary depending on the selected riding modes which include Eco, Sports and Insane.
What’s more, the battery system also comes with a bunch of safety features such as short-circuit and over-voltage protection, Adaptive State-of-Charge (SOC) estimation and State-of-Health estimation algorithm.
Decked up with features
Loading electric two-wheelers with modern features is a norm currently and the F77 is an epitome of that. Firstly, the motorcycle comes equipped with a 5-inch TFT touchscreen display which can be connected to smartphone via Bluetooth. It is also facilitated with LTE connectivity and GPS positioning. Ultraviolette has introduced an Android and iPhone app which, once connected with bike’s display, shows various information such as the F77’s maximum lean angle, rate of acceleration, and accident and fall detection. Besides the FindMyBike safety feature, the motorcycle also comes with preventive measure system which detects the imminent technical faults. Lastly, full-LED lighting competes the feature list of the F77.
Futuristic looks
While we found India’s first electric motorcycle, the Revolt RV400, quite a looker, the F77 is even more radical with its aesthetics. Although its gets a low-slung headlamp similar to naked bikes, the clip-on handlebar, large angular fairing, split seat and a high-set tail section lend it a sportsbike appeal.
Variants and pricing
Ultraviolette has launched the F77 in three variants including Shadow, Lightning and Laser. These are essentially names of different colour options. The company will start deliveries of the motorcycle by the third quarter of 2020, starting from Bengaluru, and it will be priced between Rs 3 lakhs to Rs 3.25 lakhs (on-road). Online pre-bookings for the motorcycle have already commenced.
