- Will be priced between Rs 1.1 lakh and Rs 1.3 lakh
- UM to also introduce new Renegade variants
- New 450cc and 650cc motorcycles by 2020
UM is going to launch the Duty 230 in India in September. First showcased at the 2018 Auto Expo, the cruiser will go up against the Royal Enfield 350cc range, including their most popular model – the Classic 350.
The Duty will be the entry-level model in UM’s Indian portfolio. It will be offered in two variants, the Duty S and the Duty Ace. While the former will be priced at Rs 1.1 lakh, the Ace will set you back by Rs 1.29 lakh (both ex-showroom). Both the models are pegged as urban cruisers. Speaking to PTI, Rajeev Mishra, CEO, UM Lohia Two Wheelers, said that the Duty will go on sale in September.
Rajeev also mentioned that before this launch, UM will be introducing two new models in the Renegade line-up. While the Duty is powered by a 230cc single-cylinder air-cooled engine, the Renegade cruiser range uses a more advanced 279cc liquid-cooled fuel-injected powertrain.
However that’s not it. The American brand will also expand to 450cc and 650cc segments in the next two years, going up against the likes of Harley-Davidson, Triumph and the upcoming Royal Enfield parallel-twins. The company is also investing Rs 50 crore to set up a new manufacturing facility in Hyderabad, which will boost its annual capacity from 30,000 units to 80,000 units. This facility will become operational by February 2019.
