UM Motorcycles has clocked over 1,000 bookings, less than two months after it first unveiled its India-bound motorcycle range at the 2016 Auto Expo.
Initially, UM Motorcycles will sell just three models – the Renegade Sport S, Renegade Commando and the Renegade Classic. Prices start at Rs 1.49 lakh for the base Sport S going all the way up to Rs 1.69 lakh (both ex-showroom, Mumbai) for the traditionally-styled Classic. All three models are underpinned identical single-cylinder platform, with a 283cc water-cooled heart. These motorcycles will compete with the Royal Enfield range as well as the Mahindra Mojo.
With a target of selling 3,000 motorcycles a month, the company will set up 25 dealerships in the first phase. UM Motorcycles has also announced that the first customer deliveries will commence in June. UM Motorcycles is a US-based motorcycle manufacturer, which has set up shop in India in association with Lohia Motors. For now, the company will manufacture its line-up at the latter's manufacturing facility in Kashipur, Uttarakhand, though it eventually plans to invest in a standalone manufacturing unit depending upon the demand.
