UM Motorcycles had showcased their line-up of cruisers and naked motorcycles earlier this year at the 2014 Delhi Auto Expo. Specialising in motorcycles ranging from 150cc to 300cc, the American manufacturer has been planning its entry into the Indian market for quite some time. Latest reports suggest that the company is going to launch its 225cc cruiser motorcycle, the Renegade Commando, this November, with a competitive price tag of Rs 1.25 lakh.
The stylish fenders, large fuel tank, dual exhaust pipes and round headlamps lend the Renegade an old-school charm. The low-slung seats and high-set handlebars have been influenced by traditional American cruisers and provide a comfortable seating position for long rides.
The Renegade Commando is powered by a single-cylinder four-stroke 225cc engine, churning out 18bhp and 15.5Nm of torque. The air-cooled engine comes mated to a five-speed gearbox. It will be offered in three paint schemes- midnight camo, baja dessert and super blackout.
UM Motorcycle products will be initially imported as a completely-knocked-down (CKD) kits, though the company has plans to gradually increase the localisation to 40-50 per cent localisation, with the aim of keeping the costs in check. It has already set up a research and development centre in Delhi, which is currently developing two all-new engines for the Indian market, including a 350-cc, water-cooled V-twin engine.
