UM Motorcycles will focus only on the 200-500cc motorcycle segment in the Indian market. The company wants to make a presence in this niche segment in order to gain more sales.
Rajeev Mishra, CEO, UM Motorcycles mentioned this to BikeWale at the launch of the company’s first dealership in Mumbai, at Borivali. This focus was a result of extensive research done by the company across the country prior to its official launch at the 2016 Auto Expo. In fact, the core focus for the American manufacturer is cruisers for the next two to four years. It doesn’t plan to launch scooters or naked bikes, at least not for the next couple of years. However, the top honcho is interested in launching a motorcycle in the adventure segment as there’s a lack of good products in the Indian market.
Currently, UM is in the phase of opening showrooms across the country. With five dealerships in its kitty till now and claimed bookings of over 3000 bikes, UM is bullish about its performance in the Indian market. However, the lack of brand value for the company will make it tough for them to crack the Indian market.
We’re yet to get our hands on the UM Renegade Commando and the Renegade Sport S. We’ll get the first ride review of these bikes soon. Stay tuned!
