UM Motorcycles launched the chromed-out rendition of the Renegade Commando, named the Renegade Classic at Rs 1.80 lakhs (ex-showroom, Delhi). It competes against another chrome engulfed bike, the Royal Enfield Classic Chrome which is priced similarly. We check out the competition between these flashy bar-hoppers.
Engine
The UM Renegade Classic uses a 279cc single-cylinder engine that delivers 25bhp and 23Nm of torque. This engine is mated to a 6-speed transmission and also gets an EFI system as opposed to the carburettor system on the earlier models. On the other hand, the Royal Enfield Classic Chrome has an engine that is 220cc more than that of the Renegade Classic. The bike uses a 499cc single-cylinder fuel injected mill that churns out slightly higher numbers - 27bhp and a whopping 41Nm of torque to make up for the lack in power. This engine is mated to a five-speed gearbox and final chain drive.
Features
The Royal Enfield Classic Chrome is not very loaded on features apart from the chrome, of course. It gets an electric start and single piece analogue speedometer which displays battery and low fuel. That’s about it. On the other hand, the Renegade Classic not only sports oodles of chrome all around, but also a host of features to accentuate its name. The bike gets panniers as standard which is colour coordinated with the seats, with a removable windshield and a tank pouch.
As compared to the Royal Enfield Classic Chrome, the Renegade Classic also gets a couple of extra electronic features. The bike has a service alert system and a USB charging port. The Renegade Classic also gets a bigger 18-litre fuel tank while the Classic Chrome features a 14-litre fuel tank.
Pricing
Although the UM Renegade Classic falls behind in torque, it features many extra accessories that are missing in the Royal Enfield. It is also a tad inexpensive as compared to the latter. In terms of pricing, the Renegade Classic retails at Rs 1.80 lakhs (ex-showroom, Delhi) while the Classic Chrome is priced at Rs 1.86 lakhs (ex-showroom, Delhi)
