UM Motorcycles has announced that deliveries of the Renegade Classic will commence in April 2017. Though it will be mechanically similar to the rest of the Renegade range, this flagship model will benefit from a fuel-injection system to make sure it stays immune to the emission regulation changes expected to come in force in the near future.
The UM Renegade Classic was first unveiled at the Delhi Auto Expo earlier this year. It gets the look of a swanky retro cruiser thanks to the liberal use of chrome, pinstripes on the tank and body panels and the laid back riding position. Powering it is a 279cc single-cylinder water-cooled engine that delivers 25bhp and 22Nm of torque through a six-speed transmission. Though the model unveiled at the Auto Expo didn’t get fuel injection, the final production model will get these features to conform to the emission regulations. UM is also planning to equip the bike with a rear disc brake and ABS system. The Renegade Classic will also come with an exhaustive accessory list to up the customisation quotient of the motorcycle.
UM will start accepting bookings for the Renegade Classic by January 2017. Though the rest of the range will go on sale before that, these models will also eventually be updated with FI and ABS. The motorcycles will be produced at Lohia Auto's Kashipur facility in Uttarakhand, with 80 per cent localisation. This should help the company keep prices competitive against the Royal Enfield range. UM is even planning to roll out café racer and scrambler versions of the Renegade range all in due time. Also joining the range will be an adventure touring motorcycle going head on against the Himalayan.
