- Expected to follow a modern-retro design
- Will be powered by a 150cc motor
- Likely to be priced around the 70k mark
UM has been secretly working on a 150cc retro-modern scooter that will compete directly with Vespa’s 150cc scooter range and also the Aprilia SR150 in terms of displacement.
The upcoming scooter is expected to have completed its development stage and will soon be entering production. Design-wise, the scooter will follow a modern-retro theme with a wide headlamp unit situated on the handlebar, turn signals integrated into the fairing, an old-school design instrument console and lots of chrome accents all around. The scooter is also expected to have a storage compartment behind the front apron and underseat storage with the capacity to accommodate two helmets.
The upcoming scooter is expected to be powered by a 150cc air-cooled motor and will come paired to a variomatic gearbox. Suspension duties are likely to be taken care of by telescopic forks in the front and a monoshock at the rear. To match the retro-modern theme, the scooter is expected to have aa 12-inch front and a 10-inch rear alloy wheel. The new offering is also likely to feature disc brakes at both ends, equipped with ABS which will be mostly limited only to the front brake. The rear disc brake will be a first for a scooter made or assembled in India.
We expect UM to bring the scooter to India sometime in 2019. If you consider that the scooter segment is the fastest-growing segment in the two-wheeler industry by a large margin, UM’s bid to carve out a niche for itself in the premium scooter space makes a lot of sense. The 70k expected price tag will make it really good value as well.
