- Looks like the iconic Super Cub moped
- Gets pedal-assisted propulsion system
Design sketches of one of Honda’s future electric two-wheelers have leaked on the internet. This is one of the 10 electric bikes the company intends to introduce by 2025.
The design sketches, which were fetched from European Union Intellectual Property Office, show a pedal-assisted electric two-wheeler with moped styling, similar to Honda’s iconic Super Cub. Despite the presence of pedals, the vehicle will be fairly capable of hauling the rider through the motor’s power alone. The pedals will mainly be useful for improving the top speed and battery range.
While the design of the moped looks youthful and fancy with sleek body panels, there are plenty of utilitarian bits like a large footboard which should be helpful in carrying stuff. Also, it sports just a single seat hinting that the load-carrying capacity will not be much. The company will also incorporate larger wheels, perhaps 17-inch units, for making it capable of handling varying terrains.
A further observation of the design sketches reveals a hub-mounted motor which drives the rear wheel via a chain drive. The braking setup comprises a drum at the rear and a small hydraulic disc brake at the front. As for the battery pack, it will most probably be equipped with Honda’s standardised swappable battery called Mobile Power Pack e:.
For India, Honda is mostly readying the U-Go electric scooter for which it filed patents a few months back in our country. You can read all about it here.
