Piaggio has unveiled a new special edition scooter called the Vespa Sei Giorni. This model pays homage to the original ‘Six Days’ Vespa Sport scooter which won nine gold medals at the International Six Days of Varese endurance race, back in 1951.
The Vespa Sei Giorni is based on the GTS 300 scooter. It gets a low fender-mounted headlamp, a different set of handlebars and circular instrument console. The rims and the exhaust have been blacked out and they contrast beautifully with the matte paint scheme. The single-piece leather seat gets contrasting stitching. The Vespa Sei Giorni even gets a plaque inside the luggage compartment, showing the scooter’s serial number.
At the heart of the monocoque chassis is a 278cc liquid-cooled single-cylinder engine, delivering 21.1bhp and 22.3Nm of torque through a CVT transmission. The GTS 300 rides on 12-inch wheels, both of which get a 220mm disc brake. It also gets a traction control system and ABS.
The Vespa Sei Giorni will be sold only in Italy. As for the Indian market, Piaggio has announced plans to launch the standard Vespa GTS 300 this year. It will be imported as a completely built unit (CBU), and the process to homologate the scooter is already underway. We can expect the Vespa GTS 300 to be priced between Rs 5 lakh and Rs 6 lakh.
