- Gogoro has developed the world’s first solid-state lithium ceramic swappable battery
- The Taiwanese EV maker worked in collaboration with ProLogium Technology for it
- The battery pack will be reverse compatible with the existing scooters
More progress in the EV industry as Taiwanese two-wheeler manufacturer, Gogoro, has introduced the world's first solid state lithium ceramic swappable battery. Gogoro has worked with ProLogium, a Taiwanese battery manufacturer for the said project.
The newly produced lithium ceramic battery is engineered to be compatible with the existing Gogoro EVs and won’t require any major tweaks. It’s said to be more energy dense which should thereby lead to notably better range. Matter of fact, the manufacturer claims that it can bump up the current lithium ion battery’s efficiency by 140 percent.
The internals of these batteries use solid electrodes and electrolytes rather than the polymer gel electrolyte used in lithium-ion/polymer batteries. Apart from the benefit of slow degradation, the solid state lithium ceramic batteries are also safer than the current lithium-ion ones since the solid electrolyte is far less vulnerable to fire.
We are aware that Gogoro and Hero MotoCorp are already working on a JV and the newly developed tech could trickle down to it as well. Moreover, since Hero has announced its standalone EV brand, Vida, it won’t be a surprise if the new battery is used by the new EV brand as well.
