Yamaha applies for XSR-GP trademark

-         XSR-GP trademark filed

-         Could be a GP variant

-         Likely to be unveiled later this year

Yamaha has applied to register a new motorcycle brand name – the XSR-GP. This application has been filed in the European patent office, which suggests that the company is planning something new for European market.

Unfortunately, the lack of a number in that brand name doesn’t give us any hint on the possible displacement of the motorcycle. But the use of GP in the name means that this upcoming motorcycle may have a Grand Prix connection.

Yamaha current sells the XSR in multiple displacements. There’s the XSR-300 for South-East Asian markets and there are the XSR 700 and XSR 900 for the developed markets. It will be interesting to see if the GP model will be used as a brand extension by having more power and features. Even if it is just a cosmetic upgrade, this Yamaha is likely to look good on the road.
