- Yamaha enters electric-scooter in India
- Starts leasing Hero Electric
- Tied up with Zypp
Yamaha has commenced its EV leasing operations in India through its subsidiary Moto Business Service India (MBSI).
As a part of this new business, the company has invested in Zypp Electric – a delivery service company. MBSI will give 250 Hero electric scooters to Zypp who will use these EVs for their business. Currently, Zypp has close to 5000 electric scooters in its portfolio and plans to add more as it is expanding its business to more cities. The company claims to have 1.5 lakh EVs by 2024.
Through this association, it is clear that Yamaha is playing a long-term game in the EV business. Its two-wheeler brand is working on an electric scooter that could get the styling from Neo – a product made for developed markets like Japan.
