- The E01’s setup is equivalent to 125cc petrol-powered scooter
- Offers a range of around 100km on a single charge
- Is currently offered on a rental basis in Japan
Yamaha has commenced its electric scooter operation in Japan with the E01. It’s offered on a rental basis throughout the home country and the manufacturer aims to enter the European market very soon.
The Yamaha E01 appears like a maxi-scooter. It features butch bodywork and a central spine which means the only leg room you get is on the sides. Even in its production form, the E01 looks identical to the concept. It’s powered by an 8.1kW motor mated to a 4.9kWh fixed lithium-ion battery and is claimed to offer 100km of range.
In its initial stage, Yamaha has only deployed 100 units of the E01 electric scooter in Japan. The monthly subscription is set to JPY 20,126 (approximately Rs 11,742). The premium seems a bit steep considering some of the prominent EVs sold in India are priced between Rs 1-1.5 lakh.
Yamaha has already showcased the E01 in an exclusive dealer’s meet event in India. It was displayed alongside the Yamaha Neo’s electric scooter. While the rumours were that Yamaha could bring its first electric two-wheeler to India in 2023, the company has officially revealed that the timeline is now set for 2025.
Meanwhile, if you are on a hunt for some commendable Indian electric two-wheelers, you can choose from the Ather 450X Gen 3, Ola S1 Pro, TVS iQube, Revolt RV 400 and Bajaj Chetak. We have the Ola S1 Pro in our long-term fleet, head here to read its first report.
