Yamaha electric motor gets smaller and more powerful

-         Yamaha unveils more powerful e-cycle motor

-         Loses almost 16 per cent of the weight

-         Powers many e-cycles

Yamaha has upgraded its famous electric motor – PWSeries S2. This motor powers the brand’s electric cycles which also provide pedal assistance.

The Japanese brand has reworked the motor and reduced its overall size and weight. Along with this, it has managed to increase the power output too. The PWSeries S2 has a claimed torque of 75Nm which is 7 per cent more than its predecessor. This was achieved by dropping the weight of the motor by 16 per cent to 2.85kg.

The Japanese brand claims that with this new motor, other e-bike makers get an option to design and create e-bikes with new geometries. Yamaha also acts as an e-motor supplier to other OEMs. Further, this motor gets an Automatic Support Mode. This mode relies on many sensors to help the drive unit automatically select the proper assistance mode for various points in a ride.

Yamaha has been aggressively developing new tech for the e-cycle segment. In fact, the brand is applying its learnings from this segment to its two-wheeler powertrain.
