Yamaha India has launched the MT09 in India for a price of the Rs 10.2 lakh ex-showroom, Delhi at the Auto Expo 2016. The motorcycle was launched by their brand ambassador John Abraham. The MT-09 will share space with the Yamaha R1, the Yamaha FZ-1 and the V-Max at the Yamaha superbike stable.
What is new?
The MT-09 was globally launched in 2013 and makes it to India for the first time this year. The street bike packs 115bhp of power and 87.5Nm of torque, enough to have you popping the front wheel every time you whack open the throttle. The styling is understated as compared to the loud motorcycles of the day. The cycle parts are befitting a 900cc motorcycle and should be a breeze to ride even in traffic.
India relevance
As we have said before, the Indian market is slowly opening up to performance motorcycling and given the number of options in the market as of now, the MT-09 will certainly expand the bouquet. Actually, the MT-09 does not have a direct competitor except for the Benelli TNT 899. But, looking at the market, it will go against the Kawasaki Z800 and the Z1000, the Triumph Triples and Yamaha’s own FZ-1.
Launch Plans
Well, as the headline says, it has been launched and can be booked at the nearest dealership soon. The deliveries will also begin within a month or two.
