- Yamaha unlikely to update the R1 range with the Euro5+ norms
- Will sell both bikes as track-only models
- Yamaha’s focus for the future is on mid-term products
About a week ago, we all learned that the Yamaha R1 and R1M were likely to be axed permanently. However, further development on the same has also revealed that the Japanese bikemaker will sell both bikes as track-only models going forward and won’t update them in accordance with the Euro5+ emission norms. Instead, the company’s focus will be on its mid-term products.
This announcement has been made for the European market as of now. We expect the same to be followed for the Indian market as well. That said, there is still hope for enthusiasts and potential buyers to purchase the R1 and the R1M for track use.
Over the years, from 1998 to 2020, the Yamaha R1 went under as many as 10 iterations. From design to mechanical, features and everything in between, the Japanese litre-class bike was updated heavily over the years.
That said, if you are looking for other options in the 1,000cc class, then there are multiple options such as the Kawasaki Ninja ZX-10R, Ducati Panigale V4R, and the BMW S1000RR. Honda had the CBR1000RR-R, too, on sale in India but the model seems to have been taken off the shelves recently.
