- Yamaha WR 155R off-roader launched in the Philippines
- Shares its engine with the R15 fully-faired model
- India launch unlikely as of now
After launching its retro-inspired offering, the XSR 155, in the Philippines last month, Yamaha has now introduced the WR 155R dual-purpose motorcycle in the country. Interestingly, both these bikes are powered by the same engine which does duty on the YZF R15 V3 fully-faired machine.
The WR 155R is purely adventure-oriented with a 21-18-inch spoke wheel combination shod with knobby tyres. The telescopic forks and monoshock come with a long travel, resulting in a high ground clearance of 245mm and a tall seat height of 880mm. With a straight handlebar and a flat and narrow seat, the WR 155R offers ergonomics suitable for some hardcore off-road fun.
Clinging on its semi-double cradle frame is a 155cc, single-cylinder, liquid-cooled engine which churns out 16.5bhp of power and 14.3Nm of torque. It comes mated to a six-speed gearbox. On the design front, Yamaha has kept its body panels to a bare minimum with a beak-like front fender, compact headlamp and tank extensions along with a high-set sleek tail. The fuel tank capacity of the bike stands at meagre 8 litres.
On paper, the WR 155R seems to be an efficient and fun-to-ride off-roader which would make for a great alternative to the Hero XPulse 200 in India. However, considering Yamaha’s focus being on volumes right now, it is unlikely to bring the WR to our shores anytime soon.
