- Yamaha Aerox 155 scooter homologated in India
- Type approval document leaked
- Shares its engine with the Yamaha YZF R15 V3
Yamaha is likely to launch the Aerox 155 sport scooter in India soon. The Japanese bike maker has homologated the scooter in India and the type approval document has been leaked on the internet, revealing certain details about it.
The most interesting bit about the scooter is that it shares its engine with the Yamaha YZF R15 V3, a bike we all have come to love for years. However, this engine is tuned to produce a lesser performance on the Aerox as compared to the R15. In fact, the Indian version will make slightly lesser power than the international-spec Aerox as well. The leaked document shows a power output of 14.5bhp at 8,000rpm. Nevertheless, this is still much higher than its closest rival in India, the Aprilia SR 160 that makes 10.84bhp.
Interestingly, the Aerox is not only about engine performance but also boasts some practical features. Under the seat, there’s a 24.5-litre storage space along with a glove box at the front with a USB charging port. The lighting all around is LED while the fully digital instrument cluster offers Bluetooth connectivity as well. As for the cycle parts, a pair of 14-inch wheels should result in great handling dynamics and stability.
Considering the overall package that it offers, the Yamaha Aerox 155 will mostly be priced on the premium side of the spectrum. It might cost somewhere around Rs 1.30 lakh (ex-showroom) and compete against the Aprilia SR 160 and the SXR 160 maxi-scooter in India.
