-Yamaha R7 and MT-09 teased on Indian website
- Could be brought in limited numbers
- No official timeline as of now
Yamaha Motor India has gotten bullish with its Call of the Blue campaign in the country to convert all of its dealerships into premium, Yamaha Blue Square showrooms. And now, a video on the manufacturer’s Indian website highlighting its current portfolio subtly teases the R7 and the MT-09 with TN registered plates.
Earlier this year, Yamaha India’s chairman Eishin Chihana said that the brand is looking to bring in big bikes like the R7 and MT-07 to India. However, going by the teaser it seems like Yamaha will choose the MT-09 over the MT-07. While there is no word about its official launch timeline, we can expect the two motorcycles to arrive before 2023.
Now, the R7 is a supersport motorcycle styled on the lines of the R1. The fully-faired offering packs in a 689cc, twin-cylinder, liquid-cooled engine that is capable of producing 73bhp and 67Nm. And in terms of competition, will go up against the Honda CBR650R and Kawasaki Ninja 650. On the other hand, the MT-09 is a street naked. It uses an 890cc inline-three engine that puts out 119bhp and 93Nm. This would compete against the Triumph Street Triple RS, Kawasaki Z900 and the DucatiMonster in the country.
