- Yamaha R9 will be unveiled on 9 October
- Would be based on Yamaha MT-09 streetfighter
- Will be positioned below the R1
Yamaha has released a teaser for an upcoming sportbike on its social media channels. The motorcycle in question could be the all-new Yamaha R9, which is slated to be unveiled globally on 9 October, 2024.
The new YZF-R9 will be based on the Yamaha MT-09. Why do we say that? Well, every Yamaha MT model has a full-faired counterpart except the MT-09. Once launched, it will perfectly fill the gap between the YZF-R7 and the flagship Yamaha R1.
The Yamaha R9 will be powered by an 888cc, inline-three-cylinder engine from the MT-09. On the naked bike, it produces 118bhp and 93Nm of peak torque. The motor is paired with a six-speed gearbox.
We expect the styling to be in line with the Yamaha R1 or the R7. However, the R9 will feature distinctive elements to differentiate itself from its siblings.
Yamaha has shared its intent to bring its premium motorcycle line-up to India in the coming months. We expect the new R9 to come to our shores in the first half of next year.
