The Yamaha SZ-RR version 2.0 has been launched in the Indian market for Rs 65,300. The SZ-RR version 2.0 is the latest Yamaha motorcycle to be fitted with the new Blue Core engine. This version however, comes without the fuel-injection system that is available in the FZ-S version 2.0 and the Fazer version 2.0.
Cosmetically, the new SZ-RR version 2.0 gets new shrouds on the fuel tank and fresh paint schemes. It also gets tubeless tyres, a new instrument cluster and a handlebar holder which sports the ‘SZ’ logo. Most of the remaining body panels have been left untouched.
The Blue Core engine is a 149cc single-cylinder unit which churns out 11.9bhp and 12.8Nm of torque, through a five-speed constant mesh transmission. The Blue Core engine promises 11 per cent better fuel-efficiency than the older unit, though the omission of the fuel-injection system has reduced the horsepower of the engine by 1.1bhp, while the torque is the same.
The Yamaha SZ-RR was unveiled by the company at the closing ceremony of their ‘Mission 10000km’ event, in Chennai. The event witnessed a number of other customer engagement activities like the children safety program, Zippy music circle, test drives and service camps.
Speaking at the event, Mr. Roy Kurian, VP, Yamaha Motor India Sales Pvt. Ltd, said, “It is our pleasure to be launching the all new SZ-RR Version 2.0 this festive season. With our breakthrough technology ‘Blue Core’ now inducted to our successful SZ-RR model, we want to present our customers with advanced choices and fun riding in the city.”
The demand for the 150cc commuter segment has been steadily rising and is projected to touch 1.1 million, this year. With the new SZ-RR version 2.0, Yamaha seems to have targeted the customers looking to buy a fuel-efficient and decently powerful commuter motorcycle, in this festive season. The Yamaha SZ-RR version 2.0 competes with the Bajaj Discover 150S, Honda CB Unicorn and the Suzuki GS150R.
