- New Nmax maxi-scooter unveiled
- Gets electric-assisted CVT
- India launch unlikely
Yamaha has taken the wraps off an interesting scooter – the Nmax Turbo. This is a next-generation model and has been launched in Indonesia to celebrate its 50th anniversary.
The Nmax is a maxi-scooter which was always known for its comfort and performance. But this new model is a rather special one. The Japanese brand has used the suffix ‘Turbo’ on its name to show an interesting performance upgrade of the scooter.
Yamaha has equipped the Nmax with Yamaha Electric CVT. This gearbox has been slightly modified to give the scooter a better acceleration. Moreover, this scooter has two modes – sport touring and turbo. When the rider selects the turbo mode, the CVT provides an extra electric boost to make overtaking a bit easier. This is the first time Yamaha has used this tech on its scooter.
Powering this maxi-scooter is the same 155cc single-cylinder liquid-cooled engine which makes 15bhp and 14Nm of peak torque. The feature list is decent too as it gets a TFT screen with Bluetooth integration and LED lights throughout.
This new Nmax will go on sale in Indonesia very soon. Sadly, there are no plans for Yamaha India to launch this in India. With the Aerox 155, the company did manage to add a bit of excitement in the segment, but due to a lack of sales presence, the Aerox 155 couldn’t make a bigger difference.
