- 11 special edition XSR900 GP bikes unveiled
- All get custom race paint job
- Priced higher than the standard model
Yamaha has taken the wraps off a special edition of its famous modern retro motorcycle – the XSR 900. A total of just 11 units will be sold in the European market.
For this project, Yamaha’s various teams came together and designed a few units to celebrate its past winnings and history. The bikes were styled by multiple teams of Yamaha in their own ways but took inspiration from some race-winning machines.
Yamaha Italy designed a bike to celebrate the victory at the 1996 Suzuka 8-hour endurance race. For this, the YZF750 was used. The folks in France created a white and blue bike to pay tribute to the 1984 winning bike – the TZ250. The Yamaha UK team developed a yellow and purple version of the XSR900 to pay homage to the 1993 Daytona 200 victory at the hands of 500cc champion Eddie Lawson who rode the FZR750R. The European Yamaha team designed a tribute to 13-time 500cc Grand Prix race winner Randy Mamola and his 1987 YZR500 race bike.
All these units of the XSR900 GP will go on sale with a premium price tag. But with the kind of history and exclusivity it offers, these bikes are likely to be picked up by enthusiasts in a matter of minutes.
