- Yamaha likely to introduce XSR 900 GP soon
- Expected to get neo-retro styling
- India launch unlikely to happen soon
Yamaha overhauled the XSR900 for 2022, releasing it in international markets a couple of months ago. Now, according to reports, the Iwata manufacturer could have another trick up its heritage sleeve in the form of the XSR900 GP.
Trademark requests for the name were already filed back in April in Europe. And even though the filings lacked any substance that would prove what the motorcycle would be, the XSR900 GP is speculated to be even more retro than the ‘standard’ offering. We can expect ‘80s Grand Prix-inspired bodywork complete with a bubble-style fairing and a boxy seat cowl.
Underneath the 80s aesthetic though is the same 889cc engine in the 2022 XSR900 that replaced the 846cc unit. This motor offers 117.3bhp. That said, the suspension and braking duties are also the same as the XSR900 that rides on KYB suspension and Brembo brakes at both ends. We can expect Yamaha to unveil the XSR900 GP by the end of the year, although it is unlikely to be launched in India anytime soon. That said, the Japanese manufacturer is instead expected to launch the MT-09 in the country by 2023.
