Yamaha has dialled up the nostalgia by unveiling seven special edition versions of the XSR900 GP that sport bespoke liveries to pay tribute to Yamaha’s racing bikes from the 1980s and 1990s. Let’s take a look at all the versions via a detailed image gallery.
Yamaha racing teams have designed some striking liveries for the XSR900 GP to celebrate the victories of the race-winning Yamaha YZR500 two-stroke Grand Prix bike. Yamaha revealed all seven XSR900 GP special edition bikes at the Wheels and Waves motorcycle show in Biarritz, France.
As a part of the ‘Yard Built’ program, Yamaha France designed the blue and white bike to pay tribute to Christian Sarron’s title-winning Yamaha TZ250 from 1984.
Meanwhile, Yamaha Italy showcased a red and white bike to celebrate Noriyuki Haga and Colin Edwards’ victory at the 1996 Suzuka 8-hour endurance race aboard the Yamaha YZF750.
On the other hand, Yamaha UK designed a yellow and purple XSR900 GP to pay homage to Yamaha’s 1993 Daytona 200 victory by Eddie Lawson. The four-time 500cc champion rode the Vance & Hines FZR750RR OW-01.
Yamaha Motor Europe paid tribute to 13-time 500cc GP winner, Randy Mamola, with a red and white replica of his 1987 YZR500 race bike.
The special edition Yamaha XSR900 GP bikes will soon go on sale in Europe and are likely to attract premium pricing. And knowing how enthusiasts lap up such bespoke beauties, the special edition bikes should fly off the shelves within hours, if not minutes.
