- Suzuki to rollout e-scooter prototype next year

Just a few weeks ago, Bajaj unveiled its first electric-scooter, the Chetak. And now, Suzuki plans to enter this segment with a new e-scooter.
The company has said that it has developed an e-scooter prototype and will start testing it in the country next year. Suzuki plans to use this testing as a platform and understand more about the EV eco-system of the country. The company wants to gather as much information on the EV market as possible. The Japanese auto maker plans to use Suzuki-Toyota EV tech along with Maruti Suzuki’s extensive touchpoints.
This prototype won’t necessarily make it to production. There’s a high chance the company would use the testing data that will help it develop an e-scooter or an e-motorcycle for the country. The company believes that the EVs won’t be a success immediately but by the third generation, EVs will become financially viable for the brands and customers.
Maruti Suzuki has rolled out close to 50 EVs that are being currently tested across the country. We believe Suzuki will take the same approach and will have multiple prototypes doing the round across India. That way, the company will get various data points for various states and weather conditions.
