Norton Dominator Summary
The Norton Dominator is a café racer that harks back to the glory days of British motorcycling. It is mechanically the same as the Commando 961. Where it differs is the styling. It is based on the Domiracer concept, and uses carbonfibre and exposed metal for an extreme custom-bike look.
The Dominator is powered by the same 961cc parallel-twin cylinder engine that is air/oil cooled as the Commando 961. It is a pushrod engine, which means that it isn’t the most modern tech – we currently see it in only the earlier Royal Enfields and older engines from Harley-Davidson – and it generates 79bhp and 90Nm. The gearbox is a five-speed one. In total contrast are the suspension and braking components: the suspension comprises of upside-down forks in the front, and all the suspension bits are fully adjustable. Braking is sourced from Brembo with top quality components like monobloc radially-mounted callipers for the front. The instrumentation is analogue.
The Dominator is a product that will be extremely rare – it is handmade and assembled with top-quality suspension and braking components, and the look is usually reserved for the most specialised of custom manufacturers. The engine doesn’t match up to the specs of the suspension and brakes, however; the price will still be very premium. Kinetic Motors, which is bringing the Norton brand to India, will retail it at its MotorRoyale multibrand motorcycle showrooms, but it will still remain as rare as a Unicorn.
There is only the only colour to choose from, a grey/black combination, and at its price of nearly Rs 24 lakh, there isn’t much to compare it to except for the most exotic machinery. The Ducati Monster 1200 S and MV Agusta Brutale 1090 RR are two streetbikes that can be considered direct competition. However, if turning heads is your goal, you might do well to consider the Avanturaa Choppers Rudra.
