My Experience with Royal Enfield Himalayan
1 year ago
Shishir Dwivedi
When it comes to Buying, you will be treated like a princess before and during booking, You will have to wait at least a month before you receive your bike, the bike is heavy and can take some time to get used to, I commute daily roughly 80 km on it and Im 6'4, No back pain or any pain what so ever, It can perform in traffic but you will struggle a lot with the heating of engine, one can cook an egg in no time over the engine once the engine has covered 100m, torque makes up for the missing horsepower in my opinion, as of now I had 2 scheduled servicing and one small visit to service centre after another biker crashed into me, 1st service cost around 1.5k, second cost a bit more, the unscheduled visit cost me around 2k just for a footpeg, the pros are that you will catch a lot of eyes on the road, it's comfortable on any road once you are used to it, cons for me are, the seat slope can be annoying, the rear seat can be annoying too, my mother can't ride my bike simply cause she has to hike up to the seat, the engine heat and the exhaust turning purple from crome is sad but it will happen regardless of how much you try, I'd suggest anyone buying the bike to pre-inspect the bike before delivery because royal enfield some times does a very lousy job when it comes to finishing, I already lost a loose bolt and my rear seat storage can be filled with water during rain, Kind Regards and Safe Riding

A great bike

1. Buying experience: around the 2l range i had shortlisted bajaj dominar and the himalayan. I had almost made up my mind about the dominar as it seems the better deal on paper, however my last test ride on it was not that great. I spent about half hour driving the dominar but was not impressed with the ride posture and overall feel of the bike. I went back to the himalayan (which also i had previously test ridden) and felt like i was back where i belong. Of course a royal enfield showroom experience is miles ahead in terms of giving you a pure biking experience as compared to a mass 2 wheeler store.2. Riding experience - this is where i have had no complaints. The ride quality is really smooth. There are a few minor glitches though (like the ignition playing up once, or gear changes being not so smooth) even in a brand new bike, but then nothing that would bother me that much. Once on the road it is really an awesome experience and you are sure to grab eyeballs. During my dominar test rides hardly anyone noticed. But on a himalayan, a lot of people from tea stall owner, to petrol pump workers, to fellow riders or people going beside in the car just kept asking me about the bike.3. Looks are just awesome and royal enfield have done a tremendous job. I am getting a mileage of around 30-33 easily. I have done 2500 kms so far.4. Servicing and maintenance - so far the experience is great at the re service center. The bike also has relatively low maintenance cost as it's service intervals are longer.5. Pros - looks, ride quality and posture, instrument cluster, street cred and presence, suits my tall frame betterCons: minor glitches which seem to correct themselves. Overall not much that i can complain about. I augmented the headlamp with supplementary led lights so i don't feel any issues during night rides as well.

Govardhan Ps
The buying experience was great even though i had to wait because of the pandemic. It came after a little waiting. till now I have clocked more than 2500+ km's. The bike has little quality issues with it. the riding experience is nice for long and short but caution for the heating issue at the time of traffic especially in a hot weather .Pillion comfort is good. The main issue noticed was there was noise coming from different parts of the bike after a rough dirty ride. I'm thankful for the showroom they have great service and client management . Pros: Comfortable ride go anywhere, bike Much refined than the previous version Cons: Heavy bike Some quality issues, Heating.

Buying experience: it was a first choice of mine, since this bike completes my need to touring and riding on bad roads. Riding experience: not suitable for city traffic riding but makes u too happy if it is used in long rides with minimum traffic roads. Looks & performance: looks is too loving since it’s differentiate your bike as compared to same range other bikes and performance wise its average since engine is not oil cooled as still is carburetor bases which required refinement a bit. And soon abs is required from re.Servicing and maintenance: service facility is easily available in mumbai so have not faced any issue, however had some problem with engine freezing some time and clutch cable getting loose However service center staff has rectified the same once i have shared my problem.Pros and cons:Pros: 1. Value for money 2. Best bike for touring at this range 3. Parts and service easily available 4. Parts are less costly comparatively 5. Ground clearance is awesome Cons:1. Re should start selling more accessories, so true buyer will avoid buying aftermarket parts 2. Average is not that good 3. Clutch cable issues 4. Abs not available 5. New colours schemes should be available.

Never increase side of stock tyre and In case your tyre worn out then go for ceat mizzle tubeless tyre of current same size.

1. Buying process is so easy. I got bike in less than two hours. Staff was very supportive. They brief me everything about bike before handing over it to me.2. Riding is so comfortable and good. I never felt tired on seat even driving 700 km in a single day. I drive it on both type of road. On road and off road. I did it on leh ladakh trip.3. It's look is awesome. It makes a difference between this and other bikes. I love sleet colour. Its performance is unbelievable. No bike can beat it in performance.I got average of 30-35 on full trip of ladakh. I compared it on my trip. Its balance, pick up, power, braking, tyre grip.. Everything was unbeatable.4. Service was good. I was satisfied. It runs very smooth. It has roadside assistance all over India. I love it's firing noise. Maintenance is so easy and genuine. Its not so costly like other bikes of this segment.5. Advantage of this bike is it's hulk power. A single disadvantage of this bike is it's height. Its little uncomfortable for the person having height less than 5'7".

1. Follow service schedule 2. Check engine oil at every 5000 km, as after long rides it needs top up 3. Chain needs to be lube after constant long rides. 4. Check all bulbs after 5 to 10000 km 5.

I got mine in July 13 2016.Its almost one year of Himalayan for me.I was never an re fanboy.I was in search of a mile munched. I used to do a lot of distance 150 to 2oo kms on my activa. so you can understand the tourer in me.It took a toll on my back.So i decided ever if i own a motorcycle it would not bother me at bumps and pot holes.I saw Himalayan launch on you tube and it swept me off my off my feet and i decided to book my honey on the first day and i did.Got the bike in second batch at eicher kochi....Till date i have had clocked over 6000kms of which 80 pc is long distant rides of avg 300kms each.I had taken it to high range, ghat sections and long highway trips. The bike never let me down and i had shown my patience to rectify replace certain parts as done through recalls .Re service guys are really supportive and passionate about this bike......So my final verdict is " this s a bike for the matured rider".(drag race wheely guys will be
Screwed owning a Himalayan)

Get your types converted to tubeless if you don't do offroad, Get better mirrors for your bike as royal enfield once are a bit small, Seat can also be changed for comfort, Use good crash guard from good company, lever guard are a must,
