  • Royal enfield bs4 himalayan fi honest review after clocking 15000 kms.

    Vishnu

I bought the himalayan with a few apprehensions. I wasn't sure about the reliability bit as the bs3 carburetted was a nightmare of a bike. I made the plunge nevertheless and i have not been disappointed. The bs4 fi himalayan is definitely a step in the right direction from re. I haven't had any reliability issues thus far barring once when the steering started wobbling after i did a bit of offroading as the ball riser needed fastening and the wheel required some tuning. The service center at rrnagar, bengaluru were all ears and identified the problem and fixed it in a day.The bike isn't the prettiest and has the looks only a mother would love. The performance remains the same, the engine churning out the same amount power as the previous version did. The bike badly lacks a top end on highways with it refusing to go beyond 7500 rpms. I did touch 140 kmph+ a few times though with proper shifting and the vibes starts kicking in. This is the least vibrating re of them all. I can say that with a lot of confidence. The front brakes leaves a lot to be desired as it lacks bite. Needless to say, there is no abs yet. But the selling point of this bike is obviously its long travel suspension, ground clearance and the comfort it offers while cruising and the confidence it inspires while off roading. The ceat tyres makes less work of all that comes its way and gives you much needed confidence to push the bike further through rocky mountains and mud. Finally, if you are into touring and adventure and is looking for a budget bike, himalayan wouldn't be a bad option at all. It will definitely take you places!

This bike weighs too much and height+length is big.
The average is good as compared to the bullet.
I drive sometimes 115+ kms/hr and it sticks to the road.
It's comfortable for long rides and a little discomfort in traffic.
The handle of the bike is heavy to turn in streets.
The rider should have a good physique to drive it comfortably with a height 5:8+ and strong muscles.

Riding this machine for more than 10 months. Even though the engine is smooth the vibrations do come after 4000rpm. The service experience with royal enfield was also not bad.I get a mileage of 35 kmpl and it goes over potholes like its nothing.I wish there was a button for killing the rear abs. The tires give great traction and are great for off roading. The seats are comfy and well suited for long rides. The pillion seat is also comfortable. Acceleration is okay. But i wish there was more power and would be appreciated if the torque kicks in a little more early. The bike is nearly perfect it just needs more power and it will be awesome.Maintaining the bike is also not bad just make sure you break in the bike properly and maintain a good speed and service accordingly and this bike can munch miles.

Pathetic bike, The bike seems to stall at 1 gear every time the engine is heated and despite of particularly pointing out the issue the RE guys don't seem to be finding a solution to the problem. Further the bike in lower gear feels dragged and awful experience. Never buy a RE. Further while booking the bike the bandra official store the sales team is very arrogant.

In 2017, i was looking for bike over car due to the traffic delays and college passion but did not want loose on power. I did try multiple options and wanted a bike that does not fall short of power when required and feel the punch each time when i drive it. I took the test drive re himalayan and at once liked it, however i had dilemma since i always got japanese technology which are more smoother, however raw punch that himalayan gave overruled everything. My bike november 2017 model (bs4) , i drive it daily to office and cover 36kms per day. Above 10,000 km it is become very smooth and i drive it each day with full energy. Service station is not up to the mark, it requires more professional touch like other competitors pros (1) value for money (2) power delivery each time (3) very high driving pleasure (4) nicely designed digital console & seating position cons (1) average service station rating (2) heavy bike (3) some of designs are not well finished (4) minor wear and tear not seen in well known bikes overall : very satisfying and right choice for money.

I got my himalayan last november after a waiting period of about 35 days. I made about 5 phone calls to the showroom for making the delivery fast .( there was no response from those guys)

For the long rides it is the best choice. Got good acceleration , of-course it's a fun to ride bike comparing it with the other enfield models. Very smooth riding till 90 km/h and can reach upto 130.For the slow peaceful rides i think the classic and standard is better choice. Being an offroader himalayan is the king and of-course we can smile on others in the toughest terrain.

The looks are good and my black beast is getting attention everywhere. All got something to ask about it. For the city rides himalayan is tiring. You have to change the gears continuously and it lacks the flow. The worst things i feel in himalayan is the tight gear shift and the engine heat in the traffic. The mileage varies from 25 - 32 depending on the the ride conditions.

There was an oil leakage problem from the engine top, which was fixed during the first service. The tight gear shift problem reduced after the second service(clutch adjustment).Try to shift gears in higher rpm's for the smooth shifts, that's what the advice i got from the service guys.

The engine is refined comparing to other enfield models but has got some unwanted noise. The back wheel locks and skid on sudden braking so make good use of the front brake wisely. For the servicing and maintenance i strongly recommend the company direct showroom's than other authorised one. The attitude towards the himalayan owners from the service guys deserves appreciation.(may be due to the initial problems)

If you like long rides and want to explore the tough terrains without fear. The name himalayan itself is great ,go for it.??

The himalayan can only one easily ride anywhere because now a days city roads also look like off roads . Himalayan is best for adv, tourer etc... I loving it and only one thing i request for the next update is give Bluetooth facility on it. I think on this price no body give the best adv bike its only royal enfield can done it i think 4-6 months. i have to buy it and its one of my dream bike.
