Top 6 differences between the 2017 KTM 390 Duke and 2013 KTM 390 Duke

When Bajaj launched the KTM 390 Duke in 2013, it changed the entry-level performance segment in India. With its performance and value for money proposition, the 390 Duke was an instant hit in the Indian market. Now, after four years, Bajaj has done the exact same thing with the 2017 KTM 390 Duke. This version offers better features, styling and technology than the model it replaces. Before you take out your cheque book, however, read about the top six differences between these two naked streetfighters.

Design

The 2017 KTM 390 Duke derives its styling from the 1290 Super Duke. There’s lot of aggressive and sharp creases all around the bike and that makes this bike more appealing. The old 390 Duke wasn’t bad, but this takes the design forward.

Frame

The new 390 Duke gets the same trellis frame as the older model, but the sub-frame is now bolted on to the main frame. In case of the outgoing 390 Duke, the entire chassis was welded as a single unit.

Instrument console

The talking point of the new 390 Duke is its TFT colour display that is first in the segment. It can be operated via the switches on the left switchgear. It has the ‘My Ride’ and Bluetooth features. The outgoing 390 Duke did too have a multi information display but with orange backlight and black text.

Fuel tank

KTM has given the new 390 Duke a larger fuel tank. This tank can now hold 13.4-litres of fuel, which is 2.4-litres more than the old 390 Duke.

Dimensions

The new 390 Duke is 10kg heavier at 149kg. The wheelbase has gone 10mm shorter. The ground clearance and the seat height have been increased by 15mm and 30mm respectively.

Pricing

Thanks to the new features and technologies, KTM is demanding Rs 31,515 more for the new 390 Duke as compared to the older 390 Duke. The new model is priced at Rs 2.34 lakh (ex-showroom Mumbai), whereas the outgoing model retailed at Rs 2.03 lakh (ex-showroom Mumbai).
