Yamaha Fascino 125 Summary

Price: Yamaha Fascino 125 price for its variant - Fascino 125 Drum starts at Rs. 1,06,421. The price for the other variants - Fascino 125 Drum Deluxe, Fascino 125 Disc Special Edition, Fascino 125 Disc - Dark Matte Blue Special Edition, Fascino 125 Disc and Fascino 125 Disc Deluxe are Rs. 1,07,580, Rs. 1,14,718, Rs. 1,15,639, Rs. 1,16,617 and Rs. 1,17,779. The mentioned Fascino 125 prices are the on-road price of Bangalore.

Yamaha Fascino 125 is a scooter available in 6 variants and 20 colours. The Yamaha Fascino 125 is powered by 125cc BS6 engine which develops a power of 8.04 bhp and a torque of 10.3 Nm. With both front and rear drum brakes, Yamaha Fascino 125 comes up with combined braking system of both wheels. This Fascino 125 scooter weighs 99 kg and has a fuel tank capacity of 5.2 liters.

Yamaha has updated the Fascino 125 scooter with a new hybrid engine, improved mileage, and more features. The Fascino 125 is now one of the lightest 125cc scooters on sale in India, at just 99kg. It also gets a new design, with a more curvaceous body and a longer tail section.

The new hybrid engine works in tandem with a battery to help extract 16 per cent more mileage while producing 30 per cent more torque. As a result, the torque output has increased from 9.7Nm to 10.3Nm. However, the power remains the same at 8.2PS. Then, the scooter benefits from a silent start and a start-stop system.

The Fascino 125 receives a new fully digital instrument console with Bluetooth connectivity, a side-stand cut-off switch, and an optional USB charger. It also gets the Yamaha Y-Connect mobile application, which displays maintenance recommendations, a fuel consumption tracker, the last parking location, malfunction notifications, rider ranking, and a revs dashboard.

In terms of hardware, the Yamaha Fascino 125 features telescopic forks at the front and a monoshock at the rear. It rides on a 90/90 section 12-inch tyre at the front and a 110/90 section 10-inch tyre at the back. While the base version gets a drum brake setup at both ends, the top-spec model gets a 190mm disc brake at the front. The rear continues to feature a 130mm drum brake. Safety features include a combined braking system and a side-stand engine cut-off function.

It is available in two variants – drum and disc, with seven and nine colour options, respectively. The Yamaha Fascino 125 rivals the Honda Activa 125, Suzuki Access 125, TVS Jupiter 125, and the Hero Destini 125.

Yamaha Fascino 125 Review

  • Good Things

    • Styling is quite retro in nature
    • The 125cc motor churns out decent performance
    • Overall fit and finish is pretty good
  • Could be Better

    • Not a feature-rich scooter
    • Misses out on full digital display
    • Doesn’t get disc brake as standard

BikeWale's Take

The Fascino 125 is Yamaha’s entry-level 125cc scooter that has been designed to attract the youth of the country. With its modern-retro styling and attractive paint schemes, this scooter does look quite enticing. And now with a 125cc fuel-injected motor, the scooter is more powerful and refined too. But it misses out on some useful modern features. It doesn’t get full digital instrument cluster nor does it get disc brake as standard.

Yamaha Fascino 125 Expert Opinion

The new Yamaha Fascino 125 and the Ray ZR 125, along with the Hybrid badge, benefit from newer features. We tested both scooters for a comprehensive road test review, and here I tell you everything about the updated Fascino 125 Hybrid.

Introduction

Right Front Three Quarter

Pros: Has a refined and a peppy engine, Handles very well

Cons: Very stiff suspension, Lacks external filler cap and underseat storage light

We have witnessed the arrival of several new products in the 125cc space of the Indian market, and Yamaha Motor India has been among the participants in this segment for quite some time. While the Indian arm of the Japanese two-wheeler maker was already present in the segment, its scooters, the Fascino 125 and the Ray ZR 125 didn’t pack as many features as their rivals.

Now, things have changed and the new Fascino 125 and the Ray ZR 125, along with the Hybrid badge, benefit from newer features. We tested both scooters for a comprehensive road test review, and my colleague, Neil Nair wrote a detailed review about the Ray ZR 125 Hybrid. Here, I tell you everything about the updated Fascino 125 Hybrid.

Quality

Head Light

Japanese products are known for their build quality and the Yamaha Fascino 125 Hybrid is no different. From the paint quality to the installation of panels, everything is picture perfect and we did not face any issues with this retro-style Yamaha scooter. Although the design is similar to the non-hybrid Fascino 125, Yamaha Motor India has added new paint options (nine vs seven) along with more graphics to the Fascino 125 Hybrid, enhancing the visuals even further.

Right Side View

The media unit of the Fascino 125 Hybrid that we tested for this review used the Cool Blue Metallic glossy paint that came with chrome highlights around the headlight, on the apron, and on the side panels. However, select colour options use blacked-out embellishments instead of chrome on the parts mentioned above and they should appeal to young buyers.

Comfort

Right Side View

The Yamaha Fascino 125 Hybrid is a spacious scooter with ample room on the saddle and the footboard for a comfortable ride. The same, however, cannot be said about the suspension setup on this 125cc scooter. The sporty tuning to the suspension helps the handling department but compromises the comfort levels. The suspension feels too stiff for a scooter in its segment, and you would notice almost every undulation on the surface of the road. The seat padding does provide some solace, but the overall comfort levels aren’t something that typical buyers in this segment would appreciate.

Engine From Left

On the upside, the Fascino 125 feels sturdy while going at highway speeds, or when dipped into a corner. The handling feels sharp, which is confidence-inspiring for a spirited ride. The slow-speed manners, too, are commendable and the scooter carries its 99kg weight very well. The turning radius is sufficiently short, and the Fascino 125 Hybrid manages to filter through traffic with very minimal effort.

Closed Fuel Lid

Luggage solutions include a 21-litre under-seat space and a hook near the footboard. The under-seat storage is sufficiently large to hold a backpack or an open-face helmet. However, the scooter misses an under-seat storage light which makes it difficult to find things in dark parking spots. The internal fuel filler cap does not help the scooter’s case either and you would have to unlock the seat every time you visit a petrol station. Compared to the setup on the new TVS Jupiter 125, the under-seat cap on the Yamaha Fascino 125 Hybrid feels very outdated.

Performance

Right Front Three Quarter

The Hybrid variant of the Fascino 125 makes the same power output as the standard model. The torque figures have improved marginally too, but it isn’t a drastically higher number than the regular version. The 125cc, single-cylinder, air-cooled engine on the Fascino 125 Hybrid makes 8.04bhp at 6,500rpm and 10.3Nm at 5,000rpm as against 8.04bhp at 6,500rpm and 9.7Nm at 5,000rpm on the standard version of the scooter.

Engine From Left

The motor feels peppy, and the Fascino 125 Hybrid accelerates fast from a standstill. The Fascino also feels slightly quicker than the non-hybrid model as the Smart Motor Generator comes to aid its acceleration. The acceleration, too, feels nice and peppy from the start and continues to build momentum at a commendable pace until 85kmph. Post that, the engine starts to run out of steam, and you’d find the speedometer stuck around the 95kmph mark. The vibrations are well managed and apart from a very minor buzz from the footboard at higher speeds, there wasn’t anything that would ruin the ride experience.

Front Wheel

The braking setup, which comprised a disc at the front and a drum unit at the back on the test vehicle, felt sufficiently powerful for the job. While the setup lacks the initial bite, the overall feedback was progressive; something that an average buyer in the segment should find adequate.

Technology

Head Light

While the styling remains similar to the non-hybrid Fascino 125, the Hybrid tag brings additional features to the 125cc scooter. The list now includes an LED headlight, a Bluetooth-enabled instrument cluster, automatic start-stop system, side-stand engine cut-off function, and a Smart Motor Generator. The media vehicle did not have the Bluetooth hardware installed and thus we cannot comment on its performance. The connectivity setup, for reference, brings features such as answer-back and locate my vehicle (to locate the vehicle in parking), riding history, parking record (GPS location), and hazard light function. It does, however, miss turn-by-turn navigation and incoming call/message notification functions.

Instrument Cluster

The Smart Motor Generator on the Hybrid version is tasked with two responsibilities. First, the generator delivers a silent start system. Push the starter button, and the engine comes to life with minimal sound. Secondly, the system aims to deliver improved acceleration. The company claims a 30 per cent improvement over the 113cc model, however, the difference isn’t remarkably better than the non-hybrid Fascino 125.

Fuel Efficiency

Right Front Three Quarter

The Fascino 125 Hybrid managed to deliver a fuel economy of 49kmpl in our test run. With its 5.2-litre tank, this scooter should return a range of just above 250km between fuel stops.

Our Take

Front View

Standalone, the Yamaha Fascino 125 Hybrid is a fantastic scooter. It looks stylish, packs a good number of features over the non-hybrid model, and feels fun to ride as long as there’s well-laid tarmac. The Smart Motor Generator gives it an edge, while the Bluetooth connectivity and the LED headlight add to the value-for-money proposition and young buyers would appreciate the updated scooter. However, missing features like an external fuel filler cap, an under-seat storage light, turn-by-turn navigation, and incoming call/message alert notifications cut crucial points from the practical aspect. Moreover, the stiff suspension may affect the decision of an average buyer in the segment against the Fascino 125 Hybrid.

      Good scooty

      Mayur

My buying experience was good, the ride is comfortable.
My wheel is of 2020 bs6 which has no saying style
Or features. Oh yes features side stand cut-off
And automatic ignite is the stuff my scooty has.
But efficiency is low of my expectations
It gives around 40-45, 45 is my luck and the roads must be nice. Performance is ok for the city not for long rides or highways.
Service cost is ok affordable but the service experience paid is bad if the problem is reported they your fault, not ours, you need to replace the faulty stuff for money. That's not right.
Pros are simple scooty, easy to ride, and handle
      Cons, not electrical features.

      Amazing Fascino

      Bindu Manasa

This is the best scooty ever. The driving experience is amazing. The smooth feel will be there in the wheels and the brake system is also excellent which the other scooters can never beat. Servicing is also easily available and very much affordable to maintain. Looks beautiful and very comfortable to use. The only con is the headlight which is not so bright when used at night time. Otherwise, this has so many pros such as perfect weight to drive smoothly and mileage is great.

Fantastic fabulous scooter from fascino yamaha.

      Vignesh J

It was an extraordinary purchase I choose for this yamaha brand vehicle. Because of the pickup ratio was awesome and quiet extraordinary for a long journey . Feel like a bird not get more noise from engine. Special note for the engine oil the have chosen for the vehicle was best in quality. The only minus I was noted in that was little expensive for service and little demand for getting spare parts . Otherwise compare to the market brand it was very nice scooter I saw at present.
And my lucky vehicle from yamaha.

      Classic scooter

      Sanathan Juturu

      Driving experience:
It is very comfortable scooter for men and women the most. Very light weight and easy to handle the scooter in traffic roads and normal roads. Auto mode to handle engine off while in traffic signals
      Comfort level:
      1. It is only comfortable for max 2 passengers and one small kid ~7 years.
      2. Seating is slightly down in front-side which give sliding movement for the rider while driving, which is un-comfortable with co-rider but, as you ride alone it is so comfortable.
      3. Very easy to handle as it weights 99kg only and more powerful.
      What are the best:
      1. Light weight
      2. Stylish looks
      3. Hybrid technology to save fuel by auto off and economy mode indicator
      4. Promising mileage around 50 - 55 kmpl
      Worst things:
      1. Few parts are costlier like ecu, other body parts are quite costlier and less available
      2. After a year we are not sure you will get the service properly and continue same model by yamaha
      3. Very frequent change in design and the model
      4. Lack of body parts availability
      5. Auto mode off is like nightmare for family who have naughty kids sit in-front - can lead to accident if not cautious with the switch.
      6. Junky roads and off roads - worst driving experience and worst mileage
      7. Less holding capacity under the seat only one helmate can fit in to it and small cover.
      8. You don't have charging plug in side it to charge mobile.
      9. Petrol inlet is inside the seat not accessible to use at petrol stations to fill - you have to get down and open the seat.
      10. No pass button given
      Overall performance:
Based on my driving experience and seen people comments at service center the pickup is so good in long high-way journeys and on wide roads. Light weight and very easy to handle.
      Mileage:
Pickup: excellent pickup with the engine, you can best experience it on high-ways and wide roads.
Overtaking is like a nightmare you don't ever try comparing other vehicles. Normally with proper speed below 50kmph you can overtake easily controlling it.
      Build quality:
Except the front wheel hood all are plastic and light weight. I suggest you to go for accessories fitting for it with safety metal rods. Parts are also reasonable cost for any replacement when damaged.
You can have only one helmate fit under the seat and one small bag. Less capacity storage.
Petrol lock is very good and no spillage
      Vibrations:
After +55 kmph you can feel the vibration of vehicle and when sudden overtaking accelerating the speed you can feel it as well.
      Features:
Disc model, drum model, bluetooth enabled with led headlight are three types of variant you can get
Hybrid auto engine off switch control
      Less weight
Increase in mileage compare to previous version
Excellent stylish design looks compared to previous version
      After sale service:
Good and better as always promising experience with yamaha. Few places will definitely see poor service due to its service center maintenance and the technician lack of knowledge.
