Firstly I would like to put it straight forward. My Yamaha FZ fi 150cc was the second version. It was the best first bike to buy. My buying experience was average due to the dealership that I bought it from. As far as riding experience goes. I prefer the seating triangle. It is upright, relaxed and comfortable. Also i have had many people who've sat as a passenger and say that the ride was smooth, no vibrations at all.
to me. My bike looks like an autobot, which i think is radical. Its performance is really good. I just wish it had a 6 speed gearbox. For a 150 cc, its performs well enough, but for commuting or traveling on a highway the 5 speed gearbox just doesn't cut it. Although it is quite torquey, it has a lot of of punch. Just step down to the gear below what you're on and smoke them / overtake them.
Pros: it's a fun bike for beginners. It has a decent 12ltr tank capacity. Great mileage.
Cons: not really recommended for touring long distances because of it's small displacement.

Change your oil after 3000km. Use a microfiber cloth while wiping all plastic panels so they don't get scratches. If you plan on waxing/polishing your bike, either use a soft sponge or a microfiber cloth. Do not use the same cloth for washing and wiping it dry. Use chain lube and not gear oil to clean your chain, gear oil attracts more dirt. Use a brush specifically meant for cleaning your chain.

I recently got my hands on the Yamaha FZ FI, and it's been an exhilarating ride. The bike's sleek design drew me in, and the performance exceeded my expectations. The fuel injection system ensures a smooth and responsive throttle, making city commutes a breeze. The handling is nimble, and it feels stable on curves. However, I did notice that the seat is a bit firm for long rides, which could be a consideration for some. Overall, the Yamaha FZ FI delivers an enjoyable riding experience, combining style and performance.

A very good bike it is. You can go for long drives, you will get too much comfort while riding, too much enjoyment, and an amazing pickup it has .....Only zoo zoo. You have to control your speed, because the bike easily gets 100+ speed ..Overall worth to buy, bcoz nowadays every company is reducing build quality under the tag of cost-cutting, but yamaha has a very strong build quality, a good engine, and low maintenance, I love yamaha.

I buy this bike last Feb 2023 with EMI with a 30k RS down payment with HDFC bank. If talk about riding it a very comfortable for the long run average is also good around 40-50 km per liter. About looking it looks decent in this price range performance is also good. I get 5 free services from the company
Pros - I like about Yamaha it is very stable while riding also breaking system is good for this price range
Cons - Nothing much but yes Yamaha can give more colors on FZ

Smooth to ride. Getting a mileage of 55+kmpl. However, service costs at the Bangalore service center are on the higher side just because Yamaha does not do scrutiny on the dealers. Misses out on connected tech and dual-channel ABS. For city use and random highway rides, do not think and go for it. At the end of the day, I am also hoping the bike stays true to Japanese reliability genes.

  • FZ FI V3 Post First Service

    Arvind Baliga

Purchased: Aug 2023; Current ODO: 1,300; Services Completed: First Free
Engine/Performance/Mileage: Given I am mostly riding in the city puttering around in traffic with the occasional open road to open the throttle, I have found the performance to be ample. Maybe if I was out on the open highway looking to do triple digits, I would have found the engine to be wanting given the power on tap. On further thought, I am not sure there are too many 150-160 cc bikes out there that would be comfortable doing triple digits on the highway, but I could be wrong. I found that doing 65-75 was kind of a sweet spot for this street bike (surprisingly the ECO indicator would be on between 65-70 too!). The torque though is sufficient enough to perform the quick overtake and slice through the traffic. I had heard there could be engine overheating issues on occasion, but I have not encountered issues of that sort (touchwood). As far as fuel efficiency is concerned, I can get around 50 kmpl (I usually fill something like 3 liters when the gauge starts blinking and then expect it to go for another 150 km before it blinks again, and it seems to work!). For the specs on offer and the translated performance on the road, I would give it a 4.5 out of 5.
Gearbox/Clutch/Transmission: Before my first free service, I had found the gearbox to be notchy with the false neutral being encountered far too often. But after the first service, there has been a complete transformation. The gearbox is now silky smooth and engages effortlessly (sometimes without even realizing it). If I were to name any con, that would be the occasional engagement of neutral when shifting from first to second, but I think that's more me than the gearbox. Easily a 4.5 out of 5.
Suspension/Ride & Handling: This has to be the best feature of this bike. The fat 41mm front telescopic forks and rear mono-shock in tandem with the 140-section rear tire work marvelously to offer a great ride and leaning into turns or corners and turning the bike in the twisties is a breeze (albeit the bigger turning radius). I still haven't had a consistent pillion to comment on pillion comfort but as a rider, I really couldn't ask for more. I would give it a 5 out of 5.
Braking: I am usually not one to use the brakes extensively given I anticipate (or at least try to) the upcoming traffic and allow engine braking to do most of the slowing down. However, when I have needed to rely on the brakes for a quick stop the front 283 mm disc has been extremely reliable with great feedback and bite (I employ a repetitive engage-disengage pattern to braking which I have found to work efficiently for me, rather than a hard tug at the lever). The rear brakes do the job well without biting too hard and locking the rear tire. I have found the single-channel ABS to intrude only once so far when I had to stop suddenly, and it was a rude awakener, but I now completely understand why we need it. I would give it a 4.5 out of 5.
Instrumentation/Lights: The instrumentation is completely digital looks good and is readable - both day and night. Still feel they could have added a gear position indicator and maybe average fuel efficiency. The ECO indicator (which used to be a tell-tale light previously) is now included in the instrumentation cluster at the bottom right - hard to gauge if you ask me. The headlights could have been better, much better. Not much of a problem on lit city roads but come the dark dungeons of the city pockets and you wish you had packed an extra flashlight. How I wish I could somehow install the N160's projector LED on this one! I had heard the V4's updated headlight may be better but video comparisons don't show much of an improvement there either. The fuel gauge is a tricky little thing to understand. One thing I found out was, don't trust it when you start the bike. Wait for at least one km before you read the fuel gauge. I would give it a 3.5 out of 5.
Build Quality: The plastics on the sides are so flimsy that I have had issues with them on more than one occasion. They look like they could fall apart any moment (I have to be ultra careful when I wash my bike to ensure I don't exert too much force so that they yank out of position - already happened once!) Didn't expect that from Yamaha given their quality standards. Even the engine guard accessory installed by them is so malleable. I found that I could use my one hand and bend it whichever way I needed it. God knows how it would work when it needs to do its job. I am very inclined to have it replaced already but I did pay 1,100 for it so might see it out before I look for an alternative. I would give it a 3 out of 5.
Overall, I am content with the bike's performance. As any avid bike rider would know, there are pros and cons to every machine and for the price I paid, I have to say I am satisfied.

    Final Verdict:
The Yamaha FZ FI is a standout performer in its segment, offering a thrilling riding experience coupled with an eye-catching design.

My journey with the Yamaha FZ FI began with an exceptional buying experience. The dealership staff was knowledgeable, friendly, and patient, guiding me through the various features and customization options. The paperwork and delivery process were smooth, reflecting Yamaha's commitment to customer satisfaction.
    2. Riding Experience:
The Yamaha FZ FI is a true delight on the road. The fuel-injected 149cc engine delivers a punchy performance, making city commuting a breeze while still providing enough power for highway cruises. The bike's nimble handling and comfortable riding posture contribute to a confident and enjoyable riding experience. The throttle response is precise, and the bike feels stable even at higher speeds.
    3. Looks, Performance, etc.:
The FZ FI stands out with its muscular and aggressive design. The LED headlight and tail lamp add a modern touch, enhancing both aesthetics and visibility. The digital instrument cluster is informative and easy to read, providing essential details at a glance. The bike's performance is commendable, striking a balance between power and fuel efficiency. The smooth gearbox ensures seamless gear transitions, enhancing overall ride quality.
    4. Servicing and Maintenance:
Yamaha's commitment to reliability is evident in the minimal servicing requirements of the FZ FI. Regular maintenance is straightforward, and the service intervals are reasonable. Genuine spare parts are readily available, and the service network is extensive, ensuring peace of mind for the long term. They also suggest what are the services which will make the bike perform better but it's up to the owner to go ahead with it or not.
    5. Pros and Cons:
    Pros:
-Performance: The 149cc engine provides a perfect balance of power and efficiency.
-Handling: Nimble and responsive, making it a joy to navigate through city traffic.
-Build Quality: Yamaha's build quality shines through, ensuring durability and longevity.
-Fuel Efficiency: The FZ FI is fuel-efficient, making it an economical choice for daily commuting.
-Price: The FZ FI is worth every penny you are paying for.
    Cons:
    - Seat Comfort: While the overall riding posture is comfortable, the seat could be more accommodating for longer rides.
    - Suspension: The suspension, while decent, could be slightly improved for a smoother ride over rough surfaces.
-Throttle response: I feel the throttle response is slightly slow.
    Final Verdict:
The Yamaha FZ FI is a standout performer in its segment, offering a thrilling riding experience coupled with an eye-catching design. From the buying process to the everyday commute, this bike delivers on multiple fronts. With Yamaha's reputation for reliability and performance, the FZ FI is a solid choice for riders seeking a perfect blend of style and substance in their daily rides.

  • Dealing with the youngest street yamaha.

    Reuben Pereira

Regular Oil Changes: Ensure timely oil changes according to the manufacturer's recommendations. This helps maintain engine performance and longevity. Check Tire Pressure: Regularly inspect and maintain the recommended tire pressure. Proper tire inflation ensures better fuel efficiency and handling. Brake System Inspection: Periodically check the brake pads and discs. Replace them if worn and ensure the brake fluid is at the correct level. Air Filter Cleaning/Replacement: Clean or replace the air filter at regular intervals to ensure proper air flow and combustion efficiency. Chain Maintenance: Keep the bike chain properly lubricated and tensioned. A well-maintained chain improves performance and extends the life of the sprockets. Coolant Level Check: Monitor the coolant level regularly, especially before long rides. Ensure it's at the recommended level to prevent overheating. Battery Care: Check the battery terminals for corrosion and ensure a secure connection. Charge the battery if needed, especially during periods of inactivity. Suspension Check: Periodically inspect and adjust the suspension as needed. Proper suspension settings contribute to a comfortable ride. Lighting and Electrical Systems: Regularly check all lights, indicators, and electrical components. Replace any bulbs that are not working and address electrical issues promptly. Inspect Cables and Controls: Check throttle and brake cables for smooth operation. Lubricate or replace them if they show signs of wear. Keep it Clean: Regularly clean your bike, including the chain, to prevent the buildup of dirt and debris. A clean bike not only looks good but also performs better. Follow the Service Schedule: Adhere to the manufacturer's service schedule outlined in the owner's manual. This ensures comprehensive maintenance at recommended intervals.

  • FZ, the city bike
